My First NYC Experience

So after the wedding in CT yesterday, we're headed to NJ for a workshop that DJ is going to be leading for a bunch of photographers in the area. And what's right between CT and NJ... NYC!!! Woohoo!!

In all of my travels, I've never had the chance to get into NYC before, so I was literally giddy at the sight of the massive city!

My cousin Meg has lived in Manhattan now for the past year and I was so excited to get a chance to see her place and have her show us around the city a little bit. We only had a few hours... but we got to see plenty! After some food, we took a jaunt through Central Park. Such a cool place!

It started to rain a little bit as we were coming out of the park... so we headed underground to take the subway towards Midtown and Times Square. And of course... in true New York fashion... we never stopped too long at any "Don't Walk" signs. Only long enough to let a wave of traffic by and then out across the street.

I was amazed by Meg's "sense" of traffic! We'd be standing there talking and all of the sudden she was walking into the street still looking back at us and having a conversation. It was like she had eyes in the back of her head to know that all the traffic had passed and it was safe to cross. She's a true New Yorker! And of course, she was our fearless leader in the New York subway system as well!

And by the time we emerged from underground at Times Square... all the rain was gone! What perfect timing! And what a sensory overload Times Square is... so many sounds, lights, buildings, cars, and people. It would have been fun to been able to spend a little more time in the area... but alas... we didn't have too much of that!

We headed off back towards Meg's place and caught Rockefeller Center and the Apple Store too. And after lots of walking... we also had the pleasurable experience of a New York taxi ride as well! I think the total experience was around 4 hours... which wasn't long at all! But I loved it! Just the sheer amount of huge buildings makes the city like very few places in this world... a truly awesome sight! (Even after you've seen pictures of it everywhere.)

Thanks so much Meg for being our guide for the afternoon! You were fantastic! Love ya cous!

And on the way in... we were a little scared about how close we had to park to a hydrant... but it was really the only parking we could find. Luckily we got away without a ticket! Woohoo!

Still On West Coast Time

So, I'm currently out in Connecticut helping DJ out with another wedding... and I still haven't quite adjusted to the east coast time zone yet. Well... I guess all of my friends would say that I'm not adjusted to west coast time either. :o)

We're staying at a sweet little bed and breakfast here in New Preston called The Boulders Inn. It's right on the edge of Lake Waramaug. We got in yesterday and right away DJ got a picture of me crashed out on the couch in their main lodge... which of course... only helped me stay awake all night! Doh!
Connecticut is such a beautiful place! I always find myself thinking I could live in the New England area when I visit here... but don't tell my mother... I think she'd kill me if I moved this far away from her!

Update: Doh! I accidently turned the comments off on this post... but now they should be allowed.

Accountability & Treadmills

So last night, my friend Bethany made fun of me because she had checked my Nike+ widget here on my blog. It had been 10 days since my last run and she asked me if that was seriously the last time I had run... unfortunately... it was.

So today I was extra motivated to get out there and run! Accountability is a great thing! So if you ever see that it's been a long time since I ran... get on me about it. Thanks Bethany!

I've given up running on a treadmill when I have the option of running outside. Sometimes they are a necessity... but I am renouncing them when I have the option. I was amazed at how much easier it was to run outside! And how much more enjoyable I found it!

Today I ran the farthest and fastest since I officially started to "get healthy" again... without even realizing I was doing it!

I think there were probably a lot of different factors that led to this. First off, I was outside and could keep my mind off the time and distance that I'm used to having counted right in front of me. That helped a lot!

Also, I had my workout set for a 5K... so when I got updates from my nice iPod lady... everything was in kilometers and km/min. I have no clue at what pace km/min compare to miles/min... so I had no clue I was charging it (by my standards)!

So, running is totally mental! And it just goes to prove the saying... "Ignorance is bliss!"

Santa Barbara is typically pretty mild in the weather department... so a lot of houses are built without any air conditioning. Which typically isn't too bad of a thing... except for days like today! It got well into the 80's today here in SB without a ton of wind... which means my house is just roasting!

Check out the thermometer I've got here in my office! YIKES! There is no escape! All the windows are open and the fans are going. If my old roommate Alex was still here... I think he would have died by now! :o)

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

I wish I was better with words so I could fully express how much I love you mom! You've always shown so much support and care for me in all that I've done in my life! I hope you have a fantastic birthday!
I love you!

The Mexico Cup

Check out my killer trophy!

The Log Ride... Bath

It's crazy sweet here! I don't think I've ever stayed at a place quite like Azulik. I don't think they have their own website... but if you are ever planning on coming to the Cancun area... plan a couple of days to get down to Tulum and find this place! You won't regret it. (Remember you can bargain on the rates!)

I tried to get this posted yesterday... on my birthday... but we were out late at dinner and then they actually shut of the electricity here at midnight. The little lobby here (with the only 2 outlets for the whole place) just goes black all of the sudden. I had no battery power left and it actually shut off the wireless as well! :o)

I'm jumping in a taxi here in a few minutes to head for the airport and home... one sweet coastline to the next... it's a rough life. :o)
